If you are missing one tooth or many, dental implants From Brisbane Dental Implant Group can substitute both the function and form of a natural tooth.

The benefits of dental implants can be vast and the knock-on effects of losing a tooth, conversely, can be detrimental. Dental implants can improve your health and appearance for as long as you maintain them. Whether it’s single dental implants or multiple, we will discuss your case in detail and tailor a treatment plan to suit your unique needs.

How Are Dental Implants Fitted?

Firstly, it’s important to note not everybody is a suitable candidate for dental implants. All patients will need to be thoroughly assessed in order to determine whether or not they can have an implant. Patients that qualify are generally in good health, have an adequate amount of jawbone and are free of any dental diseases such as tooth decay or periodontitis. If these criteria are met, we can move onto the dental implant procedure which usually occurs in two phases.

To prepare for dental implants, it’s important that you are made aware of the details of your treatment including any risks or complications and the costs of the procedure. During the first stage, your implant will be placed under the surface of the gum. We will use local anaesthetic or a mild sedation to provide a more relaxed experience and reduce any pain. We use surgical techniques that are gentle, and all procedures are performed by highly trained and highly experienced dental professionals, at our Brisbane practice.

Once the surgery is complete and your dental implant fixture has been inserted into your gum, you will need around three to six months of healing before the next phase of the treatment can begin. The second phase of the procedure involves placing of a prosthetic crown onto an abutment, that will act as the replacement for your missing tooth or teeth.

Dental Implant Recovery Time

As with any surgical procedure, is difficult to tell patients exactly what to expect after dental surgery. That being said, we will always provide you with compassionate, precise post-operative instructions to make sure you heal as quickly as possible. Following your dental implant surgery, we recommend applying an ice pack for about 20 minutes each hour after the procedure and keeping your head elevated for the first couple of days to reduce swelling.

Avoid any physical activity that may be considered stressful for at least three days after surgery. You should also make sure to stay hydrated and drink eight glasses of water a day. It is recommended that avoid any spicy foods as well as warm beverages and alcohol. Your dental implant professional

may even ask you to rinse your mouth with a teaspoon of salt in some warm water to disinfect the area. Dental implant surgery can improve your oral and general health in a variety of ways and though there are risks in any surgical procedure, it is a treatment that has worked wonders for countless patients.
