What are my options to replace missing teeth?

What are my options to replace missing teeth?

Brisbane Dental Implant Group offer a number of tooth replacement options.

Because everyone’s oral health and their jaws are different there is no one size fits all approach to replace missing teeth. Two of the healthiest options for tooth replacement are:

  1. Implant-supported bridge
  2. Implant-supported denture

Which of these two will work best for your oral health will depend on: your oral health and how many teeth you’ve lost.

While it is possible to receive a dental bridge without an implant, this treatment solution does not provide the jaw support and stability like an implant-supported treatment.

Implant-supported bridge

When you visit Brisbane Dental Implant Group for your check-up one of our friendly team will assess your oral health to determine if you are suitable for dental implant treatment.

Not only do you need to have good oral and overall health, you also need to have adequate jawbone density in order for the implant to successfully fuse with your jaw.

How dental implant treatment works

A dental implant is a biocompatible titanium screw surgically placed at the site of the missing tooth root. The gum is then sewn closed while your jawbone fuses around the implant. This process can take up to three months—factors such as your body’s natural ability to heal, your oral health and whether the implant was placed in your upper or lower jaw can affect the duration of the process.

Once your jawbone has successfully healed around the implant, the next phase is placing the abutment. This can take up to two weeks to heal and during this time an impression will be sent off to the lab where your implant crown will be fabricated.

From start to finish, the dental implant process can take between 4 to 6 months. However for treatments such as implant-supported dentures this may take a little longer.

Implant-supported dentures

The second option for replacing teeth is implant supported dentures. Brisbane Dental Implant Groups offers three different types of implant-supported dentures depending on your needs:

  1. Fixed
  2. Removable
  3. Implant-stabilised

If you have lost all or most of your teeth, implant-supported dentures will provide support to your jaw and allow you to eat and speak without worrying about loose or wobbly dentures. The advantage of implant-supported dentures over traditional dentures is simple: implant-supported dentures help to maintain healthy jaw bone density.

During your initial consultation with one of our team, we will assess your oral health and determine which of our treatments is best for you.

3 types of implant-supported dentures

A fixed implant-supported denture is an effective treatment if you are missing all of your teeth (edentulous) and is a denture that is attached to 4 to 6 dental implants.

A removable implant-supported denture is similar to a fixed implant-supported denture except you’re able to remove it for cleaning.

An implant-stabilised denture is a small number of implants (2-4) to stabilise your denture. Like a removable denture you can take your implant-stabilised denture out each night to be cleaned.

Best options to replace missing teeth for you

First of all it depends on how many teeth you are missing. Then it depends on your general and oral health, as well as your jawbone density.

If you don’t have adequate jawbone density, Brisbane Dental Implant Group has access to oral and maxillofacial surgeons who are able to carry out bone grafting procedures so you’re able to have dental implant treatment.
